Baltimore, MD-Thursday September 18th, 2008 at the Mansion at the Maryland Zoo.
Dr. Richard Chang, an orthodontist in FALLSGROVE Village Center was happy to put aside his professional passion for his patients and the latest in orthodontic techniques to spend some time graciously accepting accolades for the wonderful work he and his fellow Chinese American Medical professions do with CAMS. Dr. Chang has been involved with CAMS- Mid Atlantic Chapter for ____ number of years. CAMS' mission is to function as a non-profit, charitable, educational, and scientific society. The founders of the Society and the current membership are guided to promote the scientific association of medical professionals of Chinese descent so that together they can best serve the Chinese people in the Metro Washington area.
The American Liver Foundation's Salute to Excellence is the chapter's annual awards dinner. One of the awards this year was given to The Chinese American Medical Society-Mid-Atlantic Chapter for their Excellence in Community Outreach. As one of their outreach projects this year, CAMS decided to offer the Asian Community a screening day. This community is at greater risk for Hepatitis B and knowing there are many Asian immigrants without health insurance, the CAMS members worked with the Asian community to offer no or low cost screenings for Hepatitis B, glaucoma, and blood pressure checks. Dr. Chang thanked all of the many specialists that spent the day donating their time offering the screenings and providing their services to the Asian community. This event made great strides toward improving outreach and patient services for those affected by, or are at risk of, liver disease said ALF -NCA's Chapter Executive Director Kari Bedell. ”The National Capital Area Chapter is so proud to be able to honor the achievements of these awardees and to generate more awareness of the tremendous work being done on behalf of liver patients in Maryland”.
